The Green Fee was approved by Chancellor Dubois and the board of trustees. It still has to make its way through the board of governors, but it's well on its way!
In addition, we would like to welcome our new Vice President John Hudshun. Good luck to him in his new position! If you have any questions for him, shoot him an email at jdhudso1@uncc.edu or give him a ring at 704-491-4793 at any time.

Yesterday and the day before, the student body of UNCC voted 1305 to 516 FOR the Green Inititave! Congratulations to all who have worked hard in making this happen.
Oh, and look what else happened...
The NC Utilities Commission will be deciding the fate of the Duke Energy Cliffside coal expansion proposal by February 28th! We need to send as many emails as possible so that the Commission knows that we don't want dirty energy in North Carolina any longer! We've created an email to send them, so feel free to copy and paste it into your browser and send it to vance@ncuc.net. Make sure you put "Comments for Docket E7" in the subject heading, and make sure to include your name and address along with the email so that they can verify who you are and use your email as testimony. Thank you so much!
We'll be in front of After Hours in the Cone Center on Thursday from 10-2 getting people to email the Utilities Commission. We'll also be dormstorming in Holshouser and Moore Hall that same evening from 6-8 PM, possibly later. Make sure to send an email and look for us!
I urge you to deny Duke Energy's proposed expansion to the Cliffside coal project. The project is not cost effective and will not benefit rate payers in the future as it will be a short term solution to a long term problem. According to the American Wind Energy Association, the cost of producing one megawatt of energy from a wind turbine is one million dollars, which is half the cost of the 1.9 million dollars per megawatt that Duke Energy is using to expand their Cliffsides coal project. Rate payers will also shoulder the excess costs of retrofitting the coal plant to statisfy future legislation that will limit harmful emissions. Energy consumers do not need to settle for inefficeint, outdated modes of energy production to statisfy their needs. We urge the NC utilities commission to consider renewable energy to statisfy growing energy concerns and put an emphasis on energy conservation so that such large proposals like this will not be considered necessary in the future.
AND in other news, the photo gallery is really online this time! We promise!
Keep it green!
Hello, Earth Clubbers and guests! We're in the midst of a busy semester, and I hope you'll join us for some special events geared toward making our campus more environmentally friendly. Twelve of us have registered so far to go the 4th Annual Southeasatern Student Renewable Energy Conference at Clemson University, and there's always room for more.
Also, join us for our climate change discussion, which will take place at our February 20th meeting at 5 PM in the Greenhouse. We're hoping to dissect the issue and get to the heart of what is frightening everyone from confronting it.
Stay tuned to the site for more clean-ups, opportunities, and eco-friendly fun!

In our continuing efforts to improve the website, highlights from the weekly meetings are now included in the "Meeting Minutes" section on the right. Continue to check this page for the latest big news about what's going on at Earth Club, and check out the Meeting Minutes in case you couldn't attend the most recent meeting. In other news, the photo gallery should be fully operational. Check it out! Also, please continue to send in your pictures of Earth Club events, or the nature on our campus.
Cheers,
Jesse
