The Miss Black and Gold Pageant

Last year our annual Miss Black and Gold Pageant was held on October 4, 2001 in McKnight Hall on the campus of UNC Charlotte. The pageant serves as more than just a social event. Our president, Brother Jon Watkins is proud to boast:

"The Miss Black and Gold Pageant is about service. It is a scholarship fund-raiser for talented African American female students. This is also an opportunity for the sisters at UNCC to showcase their various talents and blessings"

Any female enrolled at UNC-Charlotte can audition to be a contestant in the pageant. The contestants are judged on scholarship, poise, articulation, talent, and an interview. The pageant is held in high regard at UNC Charlotte because we place great emphasis on presenting an organized, elegant, and tasteful affair

This year we had five beautiful contestants that dazzled the audience with their charm and talents. Our winner, Shari Armstrong, a sophomore from Stanley, North Carolina has gone on to win the Area 5 Black and Gold pageant and wnet on to represent us in the District Black and Gold Pageant, where she placed second.
