UNC Charlotte Fencing Club

General Information

Fencing is the art of attack and defence with the sword. There are three different swords that are used in fencing: foil, epeé, and sabre. In each bout, the fencers attempt to score touches on eachother with their swords. The first to score 15 touches wins.

The UNC Charlotte Fencing club meets from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM on Wednesday and Thursday nights on the East court (near the rock climbing wall) of the SAC.

What do I need to bring to the club?

Very little.... The fencing club has been in existence for a number of years now and has large number of fencing swords and uniforms available for the club members to use. It is recommended that participants wear a tee-shirt and "fencing knickers", loose pants such as sweat pants, or shorts. Also, the university requires that all participants in the club provide proof of medical insurance (we need a policy number and the name of the insurer).

Club dues are $20 per semester. People interested in joining will not be asked to pay dues until they are certain they wish to join.

Contact Information

The club can be contacted by emailing fencing@uncc.edu. One may also call Warren Atwater at (704) 281-3634.
