Jon Ellis gave a grad council report. Criminal Justice has a slightly different structure for a Master’s, along with a new course. Also, the graduate council wants to have more input during the planning stages for programs at the university rather than waiting until the latter stages where getting changes is a lot harder. The minutes are available at http://www.uncc.edu/gradmiss/GraduateCouncil/gradcouncil.html
Graduate Research Fair is coming up next semester (Date TBD). Helping organize counts as a volunteer point for your group. Also, the funds for awards are going to be less than last year.
There was a HUGE discussion about travel funds and whether there should be limits on the number of people that unchartered organizations can receive. Then there was a discussion of what actually is an “unchartered organization”. The FC recommended limiting the amount to 5 travel awards or $1000 (whichever came first) and then the following year only allowing 3 travel awards from that same group unless they charter. There was a discussion about fairness to the individual people vs. the chartered groups. Without the chartered groups though, the number of travel awards and money that GPSG receives overall will go down, hurting both chartered and unchartered groups.
Motion to table until next meeting: APPROVED! (unanimously)
Due to communication issues, it was recommended to the senate that every group receive an additional excused absence (groups currently get 1):
