Motion to waive reading of the minutes: APPROVED!

Motion to approve the minutes: APPROVED!

Treasurer Report:

All groups should be prepared to submit budgets early next semester. Also, each group should meet with Ms. Stephanie LaClair, our new accounting clerk.

GSWA would like to transfer $400 into travel.

Motion to approve line item transfer: APPROVED!

Graduate Council Report:

The new Graduate Council rep for GPSG is Wes Williams (wbwillia@uncc.edu). There were no proposals for the council to consider so the meeting was an open discussion. Things that were discussed:

25 PhD’s graduating this semester, total of 245 for the university

The First Citizen’s Award went to Prof Bost in Biology.

The Harshini V. de Silva Award went to Dr. Ward in College of Education.

There was a large discussion regarding thesis/dissertation formatting. (email me at jdellis@uncc.edu for details). In a nutshell, PhD’s can submit there’s in electronic copy and Master’s still have to print theirs out.

There was also a discussion about how the graduate school had treated several students in their dept. regarding losing applications, miscommunications, and residency status.

Graduate Research Fair:

We still need a committee to help organize the fair. This DOES count as 1 volunteer credit. We also need volunteers from multiple departments to help spread the word so there is a good mix of presenters.

Remember, those that don’t have volunteer points can’t submit budgets.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, January 23rd in FRET 113. GPSG will prepare a survey to send out before the next meeting to see if there is a better time to meet.

If you have missed any meetings, there should a notice in your folder. GSA has missed 3 meetings, which would result in a fine of $150. Also, there will be a vote to remove their charter the beginning of next meeting.

Motion to fine GSA $150: APPROVED!

GPPA did have a member sign in last meeting so they will not be penalized for missing that meeting.

The Graduate School wants to know how they are doing on various topics.

There was serious criticism for not trying to recruit as many national students as the do for international students. There were complaints of logistical issues and communication with the GS losing paperwork and not notifying students. Social Work had some funding issues that the GS should address. Also, as a senate, they feel that ALL full time graduate students should qualify for state benefits. This would also be a serious draw to bring other students from other universities.

Motion to adjourn: APPROVED!!!!
