GPSG Minutes March 13, 2007

Treasurer’s Report:

• Proposal by Officers and Finance Committee:
• Line Item Transfer from Travel budgets to GPSG Office Supplies Fund
• Purchase of high-quality document scanner for office
• Any remaining funds transferred to General Travel Fund
• Reallocation of Research Fair Food Money
• Dean Reynolds has generously volunteered to pay for the cost of food at for the GPSG Research Fair, so we have some money that can be reallocated to other funds.
• $1,850 currently in Contracted Services for meals at Research Fair
• $2,559 for prizes for Research Fair
• Initial GPSG Request was $4,500
• Proposal
• Transfer $1,000 of food money to prize money
• Transfer the remainder to hold for additional needs such as General Travel Fund
• There was some discussion to clarify why we had money that we could reallocate; once clarified, the senate unanimously approved the transfers
• Budget Requests:
• $123,800 total request
• Last year’s request was $109,759
• $91,757 granted by SAFC
• Increase based on increased graduate student enrollment
• Large portion of increase (roughly $11k) based on increase of SPA position to 30 hours per week with benefits as discussed and approved in previous meetings
• All groups have some increase
• Senate unanimously approved without much discussion

Research Fair:

• The annual graduate research fair is scheduled for Saturday, March 31 from 9:30 am – 4:00 pm
• Location: the new College of Education building

Graduate Student Forum:

• Chancellor Dubuis, Provost Lorden, and Dean Reynolds attended the Graduate Student Forum on Tuesday, February 27^th to discuss the needs and concerns of graduate students. A more extensive report of what was discussed can be found in the March GPSG Newsletter, available online. Some of the topics discussed were tuition concerns, parking, graduate student representation on the Board of Trustees, graduate assistantships, and more.

New Charters:

• GPSG will be welcoming three new chartered organizations next year:
• ASEM (Engineering Management)
• CSGSO (Communication Studies)
• HPGSA (Health Psychology)

Needs of GPSG:

• As discussed at the last senate meeting, we’re still trying to make sure we find out what the needs of graduate students are. Please email Leigh Ann, GPSG president, at gpsgpresident@email.uncc.edu or Liz Smith, GPSG secretary, at gpsgsecretary@email.uncc.edu to let us know your concerns.

GPSG Spring Schedule:

There are only four senate meetings left for the Spring semester, which are 3/20, 4/3, 4/17, and 4/24. Officer nominations for the 2007-8 school year are due by 4/3, and the senate will commence on voting for new officers if nominations have been made for all positions.
