The Beatles Service

November 16, 2008

What happens at a Jewish service? People are singing in a language rarely heard, inexplicably standing up for some prayers, but sitting down for others. And yet, there is extraordinary order and beauty underlying the order of the Friday night service that welcomes the Jewish Sabbath.

UNC-Charlotte's Hillel will be offering the public an inventive approach to making sense of the Jewish worship service on November 21. Dr. Barbara Thiede, Hillel Director and rabbinic leader of Temple Or Olam, will be leading our interpretation of each part of the service with a different Fab Four song. Imagine a prayer for healing with a soft rendition of "Blackbird," the prayer for mourners conveyed through "In My Life."

Please join us as we take one Shabbat for traveling on our own Magical Mystery Tour..

Welcome

August 25, 2008

Shalom Y'all!

This is your Hillel board and we wanted to welcome you to campus. Hillel is the Jewish Students Association at UNC Charlotte providing students with the Jewish connects and experiences that they are looking for in college. Through Hillel you will meet fellow Jews, create a sense of community away from home and ultimately have fun “doing Jewish” with other Jews. We have many great ideas and plans for the 08/09 school year and can't wait to get everything underway.

There will be a Hillel table this Wednesday the 27th at the Week of Welcome Student Organization Showcase located in front of the library [Update:] in the Student Activity Center (SAC) Recreational Courts from 11-2. Feel free to swing by the table before/after class to meet the board.

We are also having a Meet and Greet Pizza Party on Thursday the 28th. It will be in the SAC Salon A @ 5:00. So come out, get some free pizza and meet some Hillel members.

If you are planning of attending or need more information don't be afraid to contact us at Hillel@uncc.edu

Once again, Welcome to UNC Charlotte!
